About OsoChic Ragdolls Family History

Jonathan my Hubby competed at three day eventing & BSJA showjumping. He's a Qualified riding instructor & served as a Royal Marine for 11 years; in Sierra Leone, Congo, N/Ireland & four tours of Iraq. Now enjoying serving on the GCCF Stewards Scheme & supporting Osochic. He's also a keen fly fisherman, for which the cats

fully support & appreciate hugely!

I'm Tamsin, full time mum to William aged 14, & our small feline family! I was a Special Needs Manager for a charity & also the public & private sectors for over 20 years. Enjoying my occupation I left Motherhood till latet. When fortunate enough

to have a child I valued the role greatly so immersed myself totally, full time.

Once William made the transition to Primary School, I decided to become more involved in my long standing true passion. Having always had a natural affinity toward animals, the natural progression was to apply my high care standards & innate code of ethics to this fabulous breed of cat. To breed & show quality Ragdolls

whilst providing them with love & devotion within our home, ethically & holistically.

The Essence of OsoChic Ragdolls

Being ethical & responsible, caring for our Ragdolls holistically within our family home

is absolutley paramount to us.

"When you buy a true pedigree kitten, you don't really buy THIS KITTEN …. but its parents tests blood tests, genetic tests, ultrasounds, x-rays, its parents' show titles/certificates, its vaccinations, pedigree, microchip, deworming/flea treatments,

its veterinary checks, food and nutrition and 24/7 care until he/she goes to their new home!!!

You buy the knowledge, skills, commitment & research commensurate with the experience of the breeder.

You buy the time, effort, dedication and the LOVE that the ETHICAL breeder/exhibitor has given to your new kitten's life."

Our GCCF Pedigree Ragdolls live with us as part of our family, NOT in outdoor pens. We recognise the importance of the first 13 weeks of a kitten's life, that's why we include, adore & nurture our kittens within our home environment. We strongly believe our method of raising kittens is reflected in their temperament. As a small family unit with a close extended family & loyal friends we often enjoy the company of visitors, especially when we have little furry things bobbing about the house! This enables our kittens to have positive social experiences with all age groups, which is vital for their development. We consciously chose quality over quantity when we became enchanted by Ragdolls as a breed; recognising the importance of each of them receiving the attention they deserve & the time this takes. Our Ragdoll cats are ALL health screened & DNA tested for diagnosable prone diseases; to give them the best possible chance of a happy, healthy life, & that of their gorgeous offspring.

We have managed successfully to balance health screening, hygiene & a typical loving home environment in order for our small feline family to have the best possible chance of a long, healthy, happy life.

Occasionally we have GCCF Pedigree Ragdoll Kittens for sale to approved loving homes. We offer adorable quality Ragdolls. We strive to produce not only beautiful, but healthy, well socialised kittens, with stunning blue eyes, soft plush coats & most loving dispositions.

In accordance with the GCCF code of practice 'if' we choose to breed this is only in accordance with our regulations. When that occurs our queen is paired with Marley & placed in one room with supervision for a few days. When pregnant she will have free rein of the house again. When the time is near she will nest in a specially built maternity unit within the nursery (next to our family lounge, within our home), so she is in a totally stress free, hygienic, comfortable & familiar setting.

Kittens are raised in this quiet environment until 4 weeks of age, at which point they can explore the play room. At eight weeks old they are mature enough to explore the rest of the house. They remain with us until approximately 14 weeks of age, at which time they are ready to venture to their new homes. To maintain optimum health we don't allow our boy to be used for stud services. Also, we don't endorse our kittens for breeding. The holistic health of our cats & kittens is always our top priority.

Our prefix OSOCHIC is registered with the GCCF & our Ragdoll cats are on the ACTIVE REGISTER. We are members of the TBRCC & PRBCC cat clubs.

We are amongst the few select breeders based in the South West of England on the highly esteemed

GCCF Responsible Breeder Scheme. The GCCF Responsible Breeders Scheme states:

"I will only mate a queen who is healthy and in good condition, and only as often as is appropriate for her wellbeing." Some girls need to be mated up more than once a year. Others less than once a year. You do what is in the best interest of the cat, not the owner.

The proof of a good breeder is in the happy pet owners & in the show hall. While breeding for pets is very rewarding, a breeder who does not ever show his/her cats, or does not at least have someone else showing their lines, won't know if they are producing 'true to type' attributes in their kittens.

Unless they show their cats occasionally, they can’t possibly know if they are breeding 'to the standard' of the Ragdoll. A breeder needs to compare their Ragdolls to other Ragdolls in the show hall to ensure they are on the right track & producing good progeny. This breed needs to be protected from unscrupulous breeders, so the 'type' characteristics that the Ragdoll cat is renowned for is preserved.

♥ Characteristics of the Ragdoll Cat ♥

The Ragdoll is a large, blue-eyed, colour-pointed cat. Their size, blue eyes & captivating appearance certainly make them stand out. They are equally cherished for their calm & loving disposition. The Ragdoll is extremely sociable, thriving on human companionship. They are often found following their owners room to room or quietly cuddled up on the lap of their human companions. They are extremely kind, loyal & trusting & make the best of pets for young & old alike.

They usually get along with most other household pets with the proper introduction. Known for being an extremely intelligent breed of cat, the Ragdoll is a quick learner & eager to please. This makes them very biddable & very easy to train. It is not uncommon to hear of Ragdolls that have learnt to fetch! You can easily train your Ragdoll as well with proper reinforcement & rewards. This should make teaching them to stay off high surfaces, not to scratch furniture etc, a fairly simple task with proper encouragement. We willingly start this process for you whilst they are with us as, to give the best chance of every family being thrilled with their new addition.

They are known to be quieter vocally by comparison to some of the more talkative breeds such as the Siamese. Ragdolls instead make a super 'chirrup' noise, which is very endearing & they respond well if you master talking back with the same chirrup noise! Sometimes enabling you to have a complete conversation! lol. They are extremely devoted to their owners, a Ragdoll will want to be part of everything you do. Although Ragdolls are fairly docile they do still love to play! Our kitties love nothing more than to bat a fluffy toy or have a little ball to carry around in their mouths. It is advised to provide your Ragdoll with some stimulating toys that will arouse their interest & amuse; to ensure they take exercise & keep in peak condition & to stimulate them mentally.

Ragdolls have very few health issues, however, HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) can be prevalent within some lines.

All of our cats are screened for the known HCM genetic mutation to eliminate the risk of this disease. They are also tested for PKD, FIV & FeLV; in order for them to have the best possible chance of leading a healthy happy life.

It is important to keep in mind many catteries do carry some diseases that are common to cats & can affect any breed, including any you may have at home already! We take sensible precautions advised by our vet to prevent these diseases entering our home.

The Ragdoll is strictly an indoor cat as their docile & non-aggressive personality makes it hard for them to fend for themselves outdoors. They have no road sense. They happily make friends with strangers, making them desirable to thieves! They are considered a semi-long haired cat, although only require brushing once weekly due to their coat which feels like soft rabbit fur. A secure garden enclosure is of benefit for 'time to smell the roses' for short periods, in clement weather. A Ragdolls size will usually range from 8-14 lbs for a female

and 14-20 lbs for a male. Ragdolls will generally reach full maturity for size & colour at approximately 3 years of age.
