At OsoChic we believe it’s the moral values & integrity of a person that makes an ethical breeder.
We are committed to being ethical; applying standards of behaviour & practice to our conduct. This, the undeniable beauty &
temperament of our glorious Ragdolls, their kittens & all the wonderful reviews we've received over the years from families that now
have their very own OsoChic kitten/s, are the best endorsement possible, that & our Ragdoll Cats' Show Achievements.
Any remuneration goes into supporting our love of this breed; providing our cats & their kittens with all they need for a full & enriched
life through supplemented nutrition, quality food, stimuli, holistic health, veterinary care, annual testing & health screening, annual
inoculations, & continuing as exhibitors. We also support the Ragdoll welfare organisations caring for abandoned/elderly Ragdolls.
We are always happy to offer help, advice & mentoring, to those who adopt a 'show quality' Ragdoll kitten from us.
Is a Ragdoll cat right for me?- If you want a large cat that is non-agressive, loves to be with people & is very placid, you may wish to consider a Ragdoll. Also, if you love the look of a semi-longhaired cat but don't want the constant grooming that say a Persian cat demands, a Ragdoll would be a good choice. The gentle Ragdoll kitten is also good with children & is easy to introduce into a multi pet house hold. Our pedigree Ragdoll kittens grow up under foot in our home and are very well socialised with everyone.
What are some of the characteristics of the Ragdoll cat?- Ragdolls are by nature a relaxed, loving, docile breed. They love to have their tummies rubbed & sleep lying next to you. Ragdolls are very responsive & intelligent. They enjoy being with people & other pets as they are very social. Many can learn tricks of retrieve & fetch just like a dog! As kittens they tend to have a mad hour in the evening, whereby they are an amazing source of entertainment.
When are the kittens old enough to leave for their new home?- Any reputable breeder will keep their kittens until a 13 weeks of age.
Are all Ragdoll cats placid & docile? - No, if they are brought up in a pen outdoors or where they haven't had much human contact, then these kits can be skittish, timid & shy. Never underestimate the start of your kitten's life! The first 13 weeks shape the kitten's life for the future.
Are Ragdoll cats vocal? - They do not chat loudly like Siamese but make a 'chirrup' sound when communicating with you. Without sounding too much like a loon, you can actually identify what they want by each of the little variations of chirrups they make - usually involves you chatting back to them, 'chirrup style' !
Do all Ragdoll cats have blue eyes? - Yes, & when born their bodies are always of pure white fur.
Do Ragdoll cats get along with other animals? - Yes, usually very well actually. As long as introduced properly & gradually. They usually become great buddies as Ragdolls really appreciate having a play mate whether that is another cat or a pooch.
If the house is empty most days would a Ragdoll cat be lonely? - Yes, unless you have another suitable animal as company for them they would miss you terribly & become lonely, which may cause psychological problems or undesirable habits; this is when folk reserve 2 siblings from us.
Are Ragdoll cats indoor cats? - Yes, Ragdolls have no fear factor! So can be run over (which is often the case), or stolen (which is on the increase). They will happily adopt any stranger that approaches them, so could be easily kit-napped.
Can I breed from a OsoChic Ragdoll kitten? - No. They will be neutered. We don't sell kittens endorsed to breed in the UK.
Can I 'show' a OsoChic Ragdoll 'Show Quality' Kitten? - Yes of course, we would be delighted if you did. Showing can be very satisfying for the owner as well as enjoyable for the cat, however, there is a difference between pet quality & show quality kittens, so please let us know this is your intention & we will select a suitable kitty for the show bench for you; ensuring it meets the 'GCCF standard of points' as not all kittens qualify as 'show quality'.
Can I build an outside enclosure for my Ragdoll cat? - Yes. Ragdolls ARE indoor cats but we feel the benefit of having controlled secure access to the outside to experience the elements outweighs the possible risks. We value our cats health holistically; this includes their mental, emotional & physical wellbeing. The outside area MUST BE regularly disinfected with vet quality detergent that kills bacteria & viruses, just to be on the safe side.
When visiting can we see the kitten's Mum & Dad? - Yes.
Are OsoChic Ragdoll adult cats health tested? - Yes.
What is the life expectancy of a Ragdoll cat? - Approx' 15 years if cared for correctly.
Do boys or girl kittens make better pets? - Once a kitten is neutered all Ragdolls can be merited as an individual & as such their own personalities & idiosyncrasies will be displayed without the undesirable hormone triggers. Generally 'you get out what you put in' irrespective of any other factors.
Will I have to provide a litter tray? - Yes, you'll need atleast 2, and to keep them regularly cleaned (daily) to avoid accidents & illnessess, or bad habits forming due to not using as full!
How much grooming do Ragdoll cats need? - Once a week is great. Their fur is like rabbit fur & as such doesn't matt easily, but still needs a brush to promote their natural oils & keep knots away. They do get a 'winter coat' so will shed in Spring.
Do Ragdolls scratch furniture? - All cats have the potential to do this, this is why you need to provide a scratch post & why we train ours to use one before they leave us. It's important they can shed the sheath over their nails on occasion & a post enables this.
How do I reserve a OsoChic kitten? - See our CONTACT page.
When do I pay my deposit? - A non-refundable deposit of £100 'after' viewing kitten.
When do I pay the balance? - A bank transfer the day before collection, or cash on the day of collection.
Are OsoChic Ragdolls' Kittens Pedigree kittens? - Yes, new owners will receive genuine GCCF pedigree paperwork.
Will OsoChic Ragdolls' Kittens be registered? - Yes, on the GCCF non-acive register.
What is the GCCF? - The UK's Premier Registration Body for Cats - The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy.
