GCCF Show Classes at a Glance
Pedigree "Open" Classes are divided into Adult (over 9 months old) or Kitten (4 months - 9 months old). Adult classes are divided by breed,
Sex & colour, kittens are usually in only one for the breed. There is only one 'Breed Open Class' per cat, per show but you can enter "Side (*Miscellaneous) classes which you compete with other cats for placings.
Only one 'Breed Open Class' per show, you may be competing against 1 to 50 other Ragdolls, placings & rosettes to Fourth place, A challenge certificate may be awarded as First place, but not guaranteed as the judge may withhold the CC if he feels so inclined.
Unlike many other cat governing bodies that give out BOB's like sweeties at shows, the GCCF only award one BOB, per breed, per show. So, you may win 'first place' in the breed class & you may also be awarded the 'CC' but not be awarded the Best of Breed for the breed Class as it could be awarded to another cat from a higher class ie, a Champion/Grand Champion who 'must' also be entered into the breed class Competing for the 'Best Of Breed' (BOB) place only, though he is in the Grand Class competing for a' GrCC' or 'IGrCC'
So, an 'exceptional' cat could win first place in the Breed class, be awarded the challenge certificate & win THE ONLY 'BOB' he can get in the show; in order to do this he must beat the 1 - 50 other Ragdolls & any Champions, Gr Champions & Imperial Champions also competing for the 'BOB'.
Three 'CC's' awarded to your cat by three different Judges entitles your cat to the 'Champion' title. The minimum shows you can do this in is obviously three, but could take a very long time to achieve. Three Grand Class Challenge certificates (Only one possible per show), competing against 1 - 50 Champions of any of the Semi Long Hair Breeds, eg Ragdolls, Birman, Ragamuffin, Somali, Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest Cat etc, awarded to your cat by three different Judges entitles your cat to the 'Grand Champion' title. Then on to Imperial where five IGRCC's are required & then UK Classes at the Supreme Show.
