GCCF Responsible Breeder Scheme

Dedicated to encouraging the fabulous characteristics & traits of the Ragdoll breed.

Our aim is to encourage structural quality, type, health & temperament through careful selective breeding.

To achieve this we have established good friendships with other responsible breeders worldwide, enabling us to import our Ragdoll fur family from different countries, thus ensuring the gene pool is not only wide & diverse, but upholds genetic integrity.

The Ragdoll cat has only been around since the 1960's which is a very short amount of time in comparison to other more established breeds. This is why we believe widening the gene pool is so important for breeding & creating 'adaptability'  & therefore 'survival'.  Charles Darwin in his Origin of Species had a lot to say on the subject & it is the bedrock of his theory of the survival of the fittest and, consequently, evolution. The process of increasing & strengthening a gene pool promotes a breeds  health & survival ; especially when that gene pool is already small due to its infancy. This is the very reason why our Ragdoll family have been imported from other countries. This is not an inexpensive theory admittedly but since valuing our imported lines from strong boned, stunning, health tested, diverse, show quality Ragdolls, we are now rewarded with not only success on the show bench but also beautiful, quality kittens for pet and show, as we try for our next show hopeful.

Our attempt is to promote not only better genetic health & genetic integrity but also help achieve our long term goal regarding what we consider desirable in the Ragdoll 'look' or 'type'.  This being, a strong physique, silky coat, depth to eye colour with lovely expression, defined chin structure, rounded muzzle with breadth to the cheeks, ears of perfect size, well shaped and correctly set.

As we love the big, silky coated teddy-bear look!  Never  forgetting the importance of preserving the Ragdolls' best quality, the oh so coveted, relaxed & floppy temperament.

Health testing is very important to us as is staying informed on the latest feline health, nutrition & research. Whilst some feline ailments are not detectable &/or still baffle scientists, it makes absolute sense to us to test for the ones that are.

Our Imported Ragdoll cats are health tested

*Feline Immunodeficiency Virus,    *Feline Leukemia Virus,     *Polycystic Kidney Disease,

*Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (R),   *Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (M),    *Progressive Retinal Atrophy,

*Spinal Muscular Atrophy,     *Mucopolysaccharidosis VI,    *Blood Type.

As a Responsible breeder

We undertake relevant tests so our fur family and their progeny have the best chance of a healthy future.

Our Application Form process

Please only apply if willing to wait for a kitten.

We usually only reply to application forms once we have available kittens & once they have received their first vaccinations & health check. This is to allow us time to assess them to see if any have show potential,  & to ensure only healthy kittens are offered to new families.

We do not allow folk to visit us prior to the 10 weeks, so as to avoid cross-contamination and protect any kittens vulnerable immune system.

If you're in doubt as to the success of your application, we are more than happy to respond to an email requesting we look over it prior to kittens being 10 weeks, should you feel the home environment or your working hours need consideration.
