Frequently Asked Questions to OsoChic Ragdolls

Choosing the right cat breed characteristics that match your family's situation is vital for a happy and fulfilling future for both you and your kitten. Making this careful decision will greatly strengthen your bond and increase your shared happiness.

Is a Ragdoll cat right for me?

⭐️ If you're looking for a large, non-aggressive cat that thrives on companionship, a Ragdoll could be the perfect fit. They have semi-long hair that requires less grooming than a Persian, making them ideal for those who want a beautiful cat. Ragdoll kittens are gentle and excellent with children, and adapt well to households with multiple pets.

⭐️ What are the characteristics of a 'pedigree' Ragdoll cat? Ragdoll cats are calm, loving, and gentle. They enjoy having their tummies rubbed and like to sleep next to you. These cats are smart and responsive. They love being around people and other pets because they are very social. Many can learn tricks like fetching, just like dogs! Young Ragdolls often have a playful "zoomy" hour in the evening, which can be very entertaining.

⭐️ Are all Ragdolls placid & docile? Not all Ragdoll cats are calm and friendly. If they grow up in an outdoor pen or have little human interaction, they may become skittish & timid. The first 13 weeks of a kitten's life are crucial for their future behaviour. We help our kittens become loving, but their new owners must continue to nurture this trait.

⭐️ Are Ragdolls indoor cats? Yes, Ragdolls have no fear factor! So it can be run over (which is often the case), or stolen (which is on the increase). They will happily adopt any stranger that approaches them so that they can be easily 'kit-napped'. They can be picked on by outdoor cats, too, as they're not aggressive. Supervised leash walking within the garden is ok, but a catio is awesome.

⭐️ If the house is empty most days, would a Ragdoll cat be lonely? Yes, unless you have another suitable animal as a companion. They would become lonely without company, which may lead to psychological problems/undesirable habits; this is when folk reserve two siblings from us.

⭐️ Do Ragdolls get along with other animals? Yes, usually very well if introduced gradually and appropriately. They often become great friends, as Ragdolls genuinely appreciate having a playmate, whether that’s another cat or a friendly, respectful dog.

⭐️ Do Ragdolls scratch furniture? All cats can do this; that’s why you need to provide a scratch post and why we train ours to use one before they leave us. It's essential that they can shed the sheath over their nails, and a post helps them do so.

⭐️ Do Ragdolls need grooming? Once a week is ideal. They shed in Spring and Autumn, so a thorough brush is required during these times.

⭐️ Are Ragdolls vocal? They make a 'chirrup' sound when communicating.

⭐️ What is the life expectancy of a Ragdoll cat? Around 15 years.

⭐️ Do all Ragdoll cats have blue eyes? Yes.

⭐️ When visiting, can we see the kitten's Mum? Yes.

⭐️ Are OsoChic Ragdoll breeding cats health tested? Yes.

⭐️ Will I need to provide a litter tray? Yes, two per cat.
